BRISTOL BULLDOG IVA

BRISTOL TYPE 105 BULLDOG IVA - The single-seat Bristol Bulldog fighting biplane was designed by Frank Barnwell in 1925 to meet RAF requirements and was produced in a number of versions for the RAF and other countries. In 1934 the Finnish Air Force (Ilmavoimat) acquired 17 Bristol Bulldog IVAs with 640 hp Mercury VIS.2 engines and arma-ment of two 0.303-in (7.7-mm) Vickers Mk II machine guns. A few were still in front-line service with LLv 26 during the Winter-War of 1939-40 and the survivors, supple-mented by two Bristol Bulldog IIAs with 440 hp Jupiter VIIF engines donated by the Swedish Air Force (Flygvapnet), flew as sta-tion hacks and trainers throughout the Continuation War, 1941-1944, often on skis.
