BRITISH AIRCRAFT SWALLOW II

BRITISH AIRCRAFT SWALLOW II - A modified licence-built version of the Klemm L-25e, built by British Aircraft Manufacturing Co Ltd from 1935 onwards, with 90 hp Pobjoy Cataract radial or 90 hp Cirrus Minor I in-line engine. Nine examples impressed for flying duties 1940/41 and several of these flown as gliders for RAE tri-als in multiple tows, up to four Swallows being towed simultaneously by Heyfords and Whitleys. Four Klemm L-25Cs built by British Klemm (predecessor of British Aircraft Manufacturing Co) also impressed by RAF, with Pobjoy engine. One other Swallow II, ex-civil, purchased in Ceylon for naval communications duty as NP491.
