CANADIAN VICKERS VANCOUVER

CANADIAN VICKERS VANCOUVER - Twin-engined flying-boat developed to RCAF Specification C. 12/28 as a forest fire-suppression aircraft. Single Mk I with two 200 hp Armstrong Siddeley Lynx IVB engines flown April 1929, followed by five improved Vancouver Us to Specification C.I8/29 delivered to RCAF in 1930. Three were powered by 225 hp Lynx IVC engines but later re-engined with 340 hp Armstrong Siddeley Servals (Mk IIS/S) and other two with 300 hp Wright J-6 Whirlwinds (Mk IIS/W). Armament comprised single 0.303-in (7.7-mm) machine guns in each of three open cockpits in nose and amidships; external racks for up to four 250-lb (113-kg) bombs. The Vancouvers served primarily with No 4 Sqn at Vancouver, two surviving to join the Seaplane and Bomber Reconnaissance Training School on its formation at Sea Island, Vancouver, in May 1940.
