DE HAVILLAND DH.91 ALBATROSS - The De Havilland Albatross DH.91 was designed by A E Hagg during 1936 under Air Ministry contract as a long-range four-engined transport, covered by Specification 36/35. First aircraft flown May 20, 1937 and total of seven built 1938/39, with 525 hp Gipsy Twelve Srs I engines. Two impressed September 1940 for No 271 Sqn to operate UK-Iceland service; remainder operated by BOAC in civil guise until 1943. |
