DE HAVILLAND DH.95 FLAMINGO and DE HAVILLAND DH.95 HERTFORDSHIRE - The DH.95 was designed by a team headed by R E Bishop as a twin-engined 12/17-pas-senger commercial transport, the prototype flying on December 28, 1938, with 890 hp .
Perseus XIIC engines. Two ordered as VIP transports for King's Flight to Specification 21/39, delivered September 1940, and one as communications aircraft for No 24 Sqn to Specification 20/39 delivered May 1940. One DH.95 De Havilland Hertfordshire military transport version built to Specification 19/39, with smaller cabin windows and other changes; production contract for 30 cancelled. Eleven production civil De Havilland Flamingoes built of which three plus the prototype impressed for No 24 Sqn and FAA use; eight others with 930 hp Perseus XVI engines delivered to BOAC 1940/41 and based in Middle East through-out the war.
