FLEET MODEL 60 FORT - Intermediate training monoplane designed in Canada in 1938, with tandem seating and raised rear cockpit. PV prototype, with 330 hp Jacobs L-6MB engine, first flown at Fort Erie on March 22, 1940. RCAF production order for 200 placed and name Fort adopted, but contract cut to 100 when need for intermediate trainer dropped. First production Fort I flown April 18, 1941, and deliveries completed June 1942. Role changed to wireless trainer, and trial installation of R. 1082 receiver/T.1083 transmitter in rear cockpit, with aft-facing seat for trainee operator, flown at Rockliffe Air Station in February 1942. Identified as Fort Us, converted aircraft used at No 2 Wireless School, Calgary, for remainder of war.
