HILLS FH.40

HILLS FH.40 - In continuation of work on Hillson Bi-Mono, F Hills and Sons obtained Air Ministry permission to fit a 'slip-wing' to a Hurricane I. Aircraft used was early Mk I, one of 20 transferred to Canada in 1939 and returned to UK in 1942 (originally L1884, but retaining RCAF serial 321 for 'slip-wing' trials). First taxi-trials and flights at RAF Sealand, May 25-28 1943; ferried to A & AEE September 15, 1943. Upper wing, of same span as lower, never slipped in flight.
