- Prospective successor for Magister designei as private venture and first
flown December 4, 1938, with 130 hp DH Gipsy Major I Srs I, combining
basic M.14 fuselage with new thick-section wing, initially tested on ex-civil
M.14A (U-6). Three further M.I8s flowi late 1939-1942, with 150 hp Blackbun
Cirrus Major III engine and variety of tria features such as tricycle
u/c (on Mk I), cabin enclosure over tandem cockpits (on Mk III and full-span
slots and large-chord flaps with inset ailerons (on Mk IV) as designed
for use on Supermarine S. 12/40 Seagull.
