MILES X-MINOR

MILES X-MINOR - The MIles M.30 X-Minor was a flying-scale model to investigate blended (aerofoil-section) fuselage/wing design planned for a series of large commercial transport aircraft projects, from X-l in 1936 to X-l5 in 1944 (the latter proposed to Specification 2/44 in competition with Bristol Brabazon). Powered by two 130 hp DH Gipsy Major I Srs I engines, two-seat M.30 (U-0233) was too small to represent all full-scale X features, but provided useful data following first flight in February 1942, until later becoming instructional airframe at company's Aeronautical Technical School. In the course of testing, span was increased to 38 ft 6 in (11.73 m).

Empty weight, 2,710 Ib (1,229 kg). Gross weight, 4,240 Ib (1,923 kg). Span (original), 33ft 0 in (10.06 m). Length, 26ft 3 in (8.00 m).
