MILES NIGHTHAWK - Conceived as a multi-purpose military trainer/communications aircraft, the Miles M.7 Nighthawk was first flown in civil guise on October 26,1935. Three more examples built in 1936, of which two for Romanian Air Force still in service in 1939. The qther aircraft went to Air Ministry under Specification war began. In 1940, Miles used a spare Miles Nighthawk fuselage plus set of M.I2 Mohawk wings to produce M.7A hybrid with 205 hp Gipsy Six Srs II engine and four seats. Initially marked U-5, the M.7A flew as U-0225 as a company transport, surviving the war to become G-AGWT in 1945. Max speed, 180 mph (290 km/h). Gross weight, 2,650 Ib (1,202 kg). Span, 35 ft 0 in (10.67 m). Length, 25ft 0 in (7.62 m). |
