MILES KESTREL: The Miles M.9 Kestrel was a single private-venture prototype advanced trainer of wooden construction, inspired by specification T.6/36, powered by 745 hp R-R Kestrel XVI and first flown as U-5 (registration G-AEOC not used) on June 3, 1937. Successively modified, then acquired by Air Ministry in October 1938 for official trials, marked N3300. Provided basis for productionised M.9A Master, and used until 1943 for investigation of wing slots and slats. Max speed, 296 mph (476 km/h).
