SARO CLOUD

SARO CLOUD - Transport amphibian for up to eight passengers, the SARO A.19 Cloud was first launched at Cowes on July 16, 1930. One of four civil examples, G-ABHG (at one time fitted with auxiliary aerofoil above the two 425 hp P & W Wasp C engines, and non-standard twin fins and rudders) acquired by Imperial Airways in November 1939; used by the airline's School for Basic Marine Instruction at Hythe until June 1940, and finally at Poole for crew training from September to December 1940. Beyond economic repair, it was dismantled by May 1941. The last of 17 SARO A.29 Clouds operated by the RAF were withdrawn from service in July 1939.
