SLINGSBY KIRBY KITE I - Single-seat sailplane derived from Grunau Baby design, the Slingsby T.6 Kirby Kite was first flown August 1935. Twenty-five built, including one with non-metallic control system, for early RAF radar experiments. Fifteen impressed for Central Landing Establishment in 1940 for early glider pilot training. Five in ATC use early 1945. Gross weight, 509 Ib (231 kg). Span, 46 ft 6 in (14.1 m). |
