SLINGSBY TYPE 20 - Two-seat intermediate training glider with tandem seating, built as private venture for potential ATC use, and first flown in 1944. Not adopted for production, but used May 1945 to investigate airflow in wake of aircraft carriers, towed behind HMS Pretoria Castle and, later, HMS Illustrious. Gross weight, 1,000 Ib (454 kg). Span. 54 ft 6 in (16.61 m). |
