SPARTAN CRUISER - Three-engined light transport, based on Saro-Percival Mailplane of 1931 and produced by Spartan in collaboration with Saunders-Roe. Production comprised one Spartan Cruiser I prototype, 12 six-passenger Spartan Cruiser IIs and three eight-passenger Spartan Cruiser Ills, completed by May 1935. In September 1939, three Spartan Cruiser IIs and one Spartan Cruiser III powered by 130 hp DH Gipsy Major I Srs I engines, serving with Scottish Airways on Highland and Island routes; of these, one Mk II (G-ACSM) flew for a few months in civil marks and the other three impressed in April 1940 to serve with Nos 6 or 7 AACU, but little IIsed as airframes badly deteriorated.
