VICKERS VIRGINIA

VICKERS VIRGINIA - Twin-engined heavy night-bomber developed to meet D of R Type 4A requirement and produced in conformity with Specification 1/21. Production totalled 124 up to December 1932, all for RAF, in succession of marks up to Mk X, and in accordance with Specifications 28/23, 12/24, 10/26, 8/27, 13/28 and 5/31. Out of front-line service by early 1938, but several Vickers Virginia Xs (Vickers Type 268) remained in service at the Home Aircraft Depot's Parachute Training Flight at RAF Henlow. Powered by a pair of 580 hp Napier Lion VB engines, the final Vickers Virginia X was retired at Henlow in September 1941.
