VICKERS WELLINGTON (Trainer variants) - Some of the earliest Vickers Wellingtons were fitted with dual controls to help crew conversion, without change of designation. More specific trainer variants emerged in 1944 and 1945 and were identified as follows.
Vickers Wellington T Mk X: Converted B Mk Xs for use as navigation trainers at No 6 Air Navigation School, principally post-war (when designation style changed to T Mk 10, service use continuing until March 1953).
Vickers Wellington T Mk XVII: Conversions of GR Mk XI to train night-fighter crews, with Hercules VI engines, fitted with SCR 720 radar in nose radome. Vickers Type 487.
Vickers Wellington T Mk XVIII: Conversions of GR Mk XIII to train radar operators, with Hercules XVII engines, SCR 720 radar as T Mk XVII, and provision for four pupils and instructor in fuselage. Vickers Type 490. Approximately 80 conversions, delivered from late 1944.
