British Aircraft of World War II - AIRSPEED CAMBRIDGE

AIRSPEED AS.45 CAMBRIDGE - Provisionally named the Cambridge, the Airspeed AS.45 was designed to Specification T.4/39 as an advanced trainer for possible production to supplement the NA Harvard and Miles Master. First of two prototypes (T2449 and T2453) with a 730 hp Mercury VIII engine, flown at Portsmouth on February 19, 1941; both delivered in July 1942 but no production ordered, and proto-types assigned to RAE Farnborough.

 

Max economical cruising speed, 237 mph (381 km/h) at 16,000ft (4,880 m). Span 42ft 0 in (12.81 m). Length, 36ft 1 in (11.0 m).
