AVRO AVIAN IVM

AVRO 616 AVIAN IVM - The South African Air Force impressed five Avro Avian IVMs, with 100 hp Genet Major engines in 1939 for communications duties; they had been purchased nevlr'in 1929 and sold subsequently to private owners. Fourteen assorted Avians including 10 wooden Avro 594s and four metal Avro Avian IVMs were impressed by the RAF in 1940 but were used only as instructional air-frames for ground engineer training.
